Conclusion
The Carnival Freedom is a bit rowdier than the Ruby Princess, but both could be fun.

The Freedom and the Ruby Princess are almost identically sized cruise ships, with the same amount of passengers. Somehow, we never felt as crowded on the Ruby Princess, when the legions of people on the Freedom could be overwhelming.
Bars were the focus on the Freedom. There were so many, all with different themes and decorations, all united in their promotion of vacation drinking culture. There is plenty to drink on the Ruby Princess as well, but it is a little more refined, with signature martinis and knowledgeable sommeliers.
We found the Ruby Princess to be a little quieter than the Freedom, with a focus on quality entertainment. We feel that the Ruby Princess would make for a great getaway for a couple, whereas the Freedom is the freewheeling entertainment you would want if you were traveling without a significant other. Both ships would prove to be days worth of fun, but if you and your special friend need to get away, hop aboard the Ruby Princess and feed the romantic flame.
