As the newest ship in the Carnival fleet, the Carnival Magic naturally has a bit of an edge over its slightly older sister, the Carnival Freedom. While the two ships have much in common — from an unpretentious, “fun ship” focus to similar menus in restaurants — the larger Magic features a number of amenities not found on the Freedom, including the first ropes course at sea and one of the most elaborate water slide areas of any ship.
Both ships offer a lot of value for their price points, and both are great options for families on a budget. While Carnival cuisine isn’t gourmet, both of the vessels certainly satisfy at mealtimes, although the Carnival Magic offers a few more dining options than the Carnival Freedom, including the line’s first Italian eatery and first pub.
